The Bark Tube - a device to make a quiet car sound good.
GDes had the opportunity to provide design services to Jaguar Research, GDes was the sole contact for CAD data and rapid prototype models between Jaguar Research & Prodrive on IVDC2. The CAD data and models represented new technology to be incorporated in their future vehicles.
Two years later GDes was called upon to provide design services to Seeber-Roechling Automotive in Bolzano – Italy, to package and design a technology first introduced years earlier while working at Jaguar Research. Working with Tier one suppliers Seimens VDO to produce a viable design of the induction system and carry it over to manufacturing, thus the Bark Tube was born.
The following images and video by the BBC Top Gear program demonstrate it’s success! filmed just a few miles up the road from GDes.

The Bark Tube was designed using SDRC I-Deas C3P software, for the injection and blow moulded components.
Vehicles are Getting Too Quiet

From econo-boxes to luxo-barges, vehicles are getting quieter. That's a good thing overall, but the problem with keeping unwanted noises out of the cabin is that it can also filter out desirable sounds. Now manufacturers are piping some of the good stuff back in.
The Jaguar XF, for instance, features what engineers call
a "bark tube," a device that directs good sound back into the cabin, especially during acceleration.
